Welcome! - a life update

Hello hello, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m so excited that you have discovered this blog and share a little piece of my world with you. Whether you’ve stumbled across this space by chance or have been following my journey for a while, I’m so glad you’re here!

My name is Cecilia, and I’m a 17-year-old student from Victoria, Australia. Born and raised in Melbourne, I proudly embrace my identity as a first-generation Chinese Australian. My parents immigrated from China before I was born, and their stories of perseverance and resilience have shaped my perspective on life. Though I deeply cherish my Australian upbringing, I remain connected to my Chinese heritage — a balance that has enriched my understanding of identity and culture.

Currently, I’m in my final year of high school at Melbourne Girls Grammar, a member of the graduating class of 2025. As I navigate the whirlwind of Year 12, I find myself reflecting on the experiences and passions that have defined my journey so far.

My Love for Music

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I am a HUGE music nerd. Music isn’t just a hobby — it’s the rhythm that shapes my life. I play the piano, the French horn, and the trumpet, and I sing a little too. Performing, whether in an ensemble or solo, is my greatest joy, and I find nothing more fulfilling than sharing melodies with others. If you’re curious, you can check out some of my past performances in the music section of this site!

Writing and Language: My Other Creative Outlets

Beyond music, I have an insatiable love for writing. Whether it’s short stories, opinion pieces, or research papers, writing provides me with an outlet to explore and articulate my thoughts. There’s something deeply satisfying about sitting down after a long day and letting my ideas flow onto a blank page. If you enjoy thought-provoking discussions and creative musings, you’ll find some of my recent work in the blog section!

More recently, I’ve discovered a profound passion for languages. I study Chinese, French, and English (of course!), and I find immense joy in the way words and cultures intertwine. Language learning comes naturally to me, and I love using it as a means to connect with people from different backgrounds. Each language I study opens up a new perspective on the world, and I’m eager to continue exploring this passion in the years to come.

Looking Toward the Future

Like many teenagers on the brink of adulthood, I’m still figuring out where life will take me. I have a strong interest in languages – especially French – and dream of pursuing it at university in the US. At the same time, music will always be a part of my life, no matter where I go. Lately, I’ve also considered the possibility of a medical career, specifically in paediatrics. While my path is not yet set in stone, I’m excited for the opportunities ahead.

A Fun Fact

One last thing before I wrap up this introduction: let me tell you about a fun fact! My younger brother, Oscar, is two years younger than me, and his birthday is exactly two days before mine. Every year, instead of celebrating separately, we have a combined birthday on the day in between. It’s a small but meaningful tradition that makes our birthdays extra special!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me! I hope this blog becomes a place where I can share my experiences, passions, and thoughts with you all. I’d love for you to join me on this journey, so stay tuned for more!

with love,

Cecilia
